Returning Across the Lake Without a near Full Moon The oarsman rowed along silent As if all his sounds had been spent Heard only was wind and water, Soundless birds floated on the wind They had no glad greetings to send From the gray skies of the winter. I had been gone less than season And it had cost too great a loss There before the shell of my home, Raiders had came looking for gain Finding just her my one treasure Took her life leaving me alone. The oarsman rowed to the far shore Returning me back to the war Again reaching there in darkness But now it was a darker night I went ashore with no moon light Carrying a sword and sadness.
