If you were granted gift of wings
A tail, two horns, a voice that rings,
You'd see what I'd be doing now
If it were yesterday somehow.

Soaring over thick, dense clouds
Breaking through the misty shrouds
Out into the moonlit night,
Oh, to behold just such a sight!

I flew around, dark thoughts inside
My whirling mind, could not decide
What to do from that point on
When I found out my friend was gone...

My feelings were as black as night,
On hearing news about his plight.
My heart took on such steep a dive
When I knew he was not alive.

I still remember way back when
The times I wish would come again,
We'd given each other a tiny star
To keep when we were near or far.

That night I took the pendant and
Caressed it in my scaly hand.
I wished that my good friend was here,
As slowly came from me a tear.

__________

But then I saw up in the sky
A sight that made me stop my cry.
Instead, warm tears of joy then came
As if I'd heard him call my name.

The stars shone brightly, twinkling so,
And no one else but I would know
Why they did that, cast their light
On this cold, dark winter night.

__________

It cannot be done, they say
That there could never be a way
To shepherd all the stars up there;
Or hold them in a gentle care.

But I do know someone who could--
A sight so beautiful, so good.

And then I knew that my best friend
Had not yet met his end...

I myself haven't lost any best friends--thank God for that--and hopefully will not lose any in the future. But this is for all those who have...to tell them that someone's journey doesn't stop...it just doesn't.

Now, me on the other hand, my journeys always end up passing by the refrigerator, then the oven, and end up at a table...and this journey seems to happen distressingly often...

Hi Spyro!
What a wonderful tribute to best friends. I don't know what I'd do if I lost mine either, but this was very touching. Thanks for writing.

Spyro,

This is a touching tribute to best friends. I've lost many friends unfortunately in my life and I think of them a lot. Thanks for a lovely way to remember them.

Spyro I'm in tears... This is heart-stopping..

"My whirling mind, could not decide

My heart took on such steep a dive
When I knew he was not alive.

So very true in my life right now... Has been for a while.. Hmm... Very well written and unbelievable how, time and time again, you do such a wonderful job!

And thus the friend,
will never end.
They live on
in all men.

Within the hearts
whom loved them bold
The tales of love
never told.

Merely shared
between two friends
as long as one lives
the memory never ends.

Great Poem Spyro.
Inspirational and moving.  Great job.

Thanks.....good writing.
I've had 3 friends die on me so far.
- One died cuz he got hit by a car
- Second had a huge asthma attack
- Other one has something wrong with his kidneys.

and I currently have a friend going in for an operation cuz he has a tumor next to his left lung. 50% chance of surviving the operation........so horrible.

This hit the spot....thanks
