Poetry is all
A landscape of painted words
A portrait of life
Each day drawn from yesterday
A rhythmic spectrum of time

Written with a pen
Perhaps on a small white pad
In India ink
Or scribbled on a menu
At the favorite coffee shop

Next to my table
sat an old whitebearded man
not a local one
I wondered who he might be
If he was a poet too

A rose is a rose is a rose...I guess...

He captured my eye
An ancient wisdom shone through
Eyes of purest blue
Poignantly omniscient
While his peace fell over me

magnetism reigned
drawing me to this stranger
I had to know him
he spoke nothing yet said much
his voice a muted penning

Sheer serenity
Engulfed the air around us
Deepest sighs released
Moments of awkward silence
Then he cleared his voice to speak

~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~

Not a moment's sound
You have still a life to live
Speak it while you can

Stirring coffee, as he died
Rings to sing his eulogy

Ah! the memory
Of a life full of wisdom
Speaking from the heart
On that very fateful day
Passing on a legacy

God is our inspiration; Words of the heart can be music to our ears

We can’t deny
How history  guides life stream
we float and renew
daydreams in  future projects
thoughts of yesterdays

Students of times past
Learn humanity's context
Hope to heed its call
Attendance to history
Wends pathways to future peace

With acts of wisdom
always in the present tense
they hope to see tomorrow
But time’s prison holds today
in perpetual notion

Time, mirror of life
Reflections of inner most
Smiles upon a tear
Thorns of bitterness, yet hope
Guide to eternally love

love, that is to be
given as the ultimate
gift of life from one
hand to another, passed in
time, from father to his son

Question! Question!  What's the difference between a choka and a tanka?
