This is in response to Poet deVine's challenge at: /pip/Forum7/HTML/000683.html I picked #17, and the poem was "The Ballad of the Blowfly" by The Grey: /pip/Forum94/HTML/003346.html I didn't do "The Ballad of the Blowfly" justice, so please forgive me, but here is my reply: The Blowfly in America They say “that blowie” that had “resurrected from the dead” Was scared of all those Aussie’s beer, took to its wings and fled Across the ocean to the “land of opportunity” And figured, “hey, if it’s so free, I’m sure there’s room for me”. But there his tale was half as long, and eighty times as sad, For see, although he quite enjoyed the little time he had, One day he happened on a yankee’s glass of lemonade, And flew right down to taste it—’twas the last mistake he made. This yankee had no heart at all for resurrected flies, Like every stubborn yankee, he longed for their demise; When he had spied that fly upon his glass he calmly said, “My friend, farewell,” and SMACK! —I fear that he was really dead. |

You not only met the challenge but did exactly the thing I would have done to any fly, American, Aussie, or Canadian. |
