If you only had an inkling
of the pattern in my mind,
I would not stutter quite so badly.
I struggle for my pride.

Fear, like rage, does overwhelm me.
Pittingly, you try to hear.
I wish my heart could speak; yet sadly,
she always tries to hide.

I shutter at the thought
that I show only with my eyes.
It seems as though you'd read them gladly,
But, you might be surprised.

I wish poetry ran as deep in my family as it does in yours. My sisters are bright and definitely artistic -- one even wrote a book -- but no poets. Two gifted poets in one family is a beautiful thing.
