Okay. Sigh. I used a very scientific method to choose my first challenge from my own poetic buffet (which I will reveal at a later date) but? for those who know me? you KNOW--I did indeed stick to the plan--because I HATE writing haiku/senryu--whatever... (serenity is now tempted to "neener" HERSELF. hmmm? now that would be a gift, now wouldn't it? ) but sigh, at least I got this one out of the way... pphhhhhhhllllbbbbbbbttttttttt: /pip/Forum80/HTML/003695.html chuckle. But DO have fun! mmmm..."b'bye!" |

Good grief. At first I thought the last one was calzone and I thought you were going to feed us while we played your maniacal game. But noooooooo....not to be. Grief. Sigh. May we do more than one? |

Come on! As for myself.....duh...I can't believe how many forms of poetry there are, nevermind choose one, and try to learn how to write it!! Good grief! Homework....homework....Chris mutters as she heads for the kitchen and something sweet to get her sugar level back up. |

Okay, Karen...wanna hear something almost scary? I decided to use my OWN highly scientific method to come up with my first challenge. Would you believe?...2-g?...I kid you not! If I didn't know better, I'd think I was lying...LOL. *Vicky exits...wondering what KAREN'S scientific method consists of* [This message has been edited by vlraynes (07-30-2003 05:05 PM).] |

LOL @ YOUR 'scientific' method. It's ALMOST as highly scientific as mine was. I took a deck of cards and drew one card (a 2) for the theme, and a second card (a 7) for the form. LOL. Gotta love it... |

You know what? looking at these..I am seeing were they come from..like the cockroach (serenity) And the color yellow (me) broom (most likely serenity's if it can fly... ) I am reading your mind right now.. yellow is repedative..I'll do 7..7 and free verse. 7 is my unlucky number. And if ya think that's weird..my lucky number is 13. I love irony insanity is not a crime |

Good grief....the toilet...I mean....triolet was difficult, especially writing one out in the sun. I have so much to learn!! Where was I in highschool? Oh ya....nevermind. Karen, my dear serenity, how about you writing a poem for all of us about the oak tree - witch connection? I think it only fair since we have been such good kiddies. Huh? How about? Okay.....pleeeeeaaase? |

a triolet indeed take the top branches off and make sure your two repeating lines - the first and the last are strong - capitalize the repeating lines - the first letters . . . POST IT Nice job Liz, did you know you were writing a triolet? A Triolet is a poetic form consisting of only 8 lines. Within a Triolet, the 1st, 4th, and 7th lines repeat, and the 2nd and 8th lines do as well. The rhyme scheme is simple: ABaAabAB, capital letters representing the repeated lines. yes I knew that.. and branches was the title, not a part of the poem. I just don't like it. I'm just reading other people's stuff instead of writing..I..I'll say that I'm having a writer's block or something.. I've done triolets before..how could anyone write one without knowing what it was? ugh..excuse my bitterness, I've been good for too long insanity is not a crime |

That's okay Wind. I think our brains are beginning to fry from thinking too much....lol.....at least mine are. You're younger and have more get up and go. Sue - thanks for the info on triolets...makes me wonder now if I really wrote one or not. Can you let me know if I did...or didn't? I don't know where it is....it did a pretty quick Passionate Plummet, but it's called Branches as well. Thanks, Chris |

Well, I did what I thought was a triolet on Karen's witches story, but now I don't know if it was one or not, because of the rhyme AB thingy. And are not all of the first lines supposed to be capitalized....or just the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, and 8th?? Tell me, somebody. Okay? Thanks. |

Ethel...from what I can tell, it looks to me like you did it perfectly. It appears that you followed the rhyme scheme correctly, and the catitalization is an optional thing. Some people prefer to capitalize, and others don't. And?...I LOVE your poem. |

Thanks Vicky. I just went back and edited it after I read some more about triolets. It said to make it harder, there could be syllable count of ten on each line. And, I fixed it where the third and fifth and sixth lines don't start with capitals. Go see what you think of it now, okay?? Thanks. |

Yep...it still looks great to me, Ethel. I like it both ways. Question though...are you seeing somewhere, where it says that those particular lines are not supposed to be capitalized in that format? I'm not seeing that, so I was just wondering. |

Hi Vicky. I saw this at the link Karen gave..shadowpoetry.com. I copied and pasted this part about the Triolet....... Triolet A Triolet is a poetic form consisting of only 8 lines. Within a Triolet, the 1st, 4th, and 7th lines repeat, and the 2nd and 8th lines do as well. The rhyme scheme is simple: ABaAabAB, capital letters representing the repeated lines. Make writing a Triolet more challenging! Make each line 8 syllables in length (4 metrical feet), written in iambic tetrameter (the more common way), or try it in pentameter (English version) where each line only has 10 syllables(5 metrical feet). In the examples, though, most of them capitalized all of the first letters of each line. So, I guess it doesn't really matter, right? |

Right... I'm guessing that what threw you off was the capitalization of the A's and B's in the explanation of the rhyme scheme. Those letters were only capitalized to show that those particular lines were the repeated ones, but the capitalization of the actual poem can be done in any way that you choose. Anyway...I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something, before I assumed that you misunderstood. Bottom line?...You did an EXCELLENT job, and wrote a perfect triolet...I truly do love it. [This message has been edited by vlraynes (08-02-2003 01:13 AM).] |
