Silently sinking into midnight shadow, I look out upon twilit land. Casting about for dirtied burrow, I catch sight of its child-like hand. Emerging from its daytime slumber, I watch as its whiskers twitch slow, Snuffling rhythmically 'neath eyes of amber, Gaining life-knowledge from a breeze that blows. Masked face continues its ascent Into the dark'ning light; And I, the sun, drop my last descent, Watching ringed tail come full into the night. ~~~~ At last, the red face has fallen beneath the trees; Sweet shadows pull with the whiff of misted air. Forced to scurry about in cold gutters, Scuffed by grainy rock instead of soft mosses, Keeping to the gloomy backways to avoid the tall ones, With their fire and traps, and noisy barks. Choice scraps waft delicious aromas From within the shallow metal trunks. ~~~~ A clamor disrupts the quiet under a half moon, as the porch swing rocks slowly with the night's soft breeze. Scratches are followed by barks at the back screen door when the labs hear the trash lid hit the concrete. I won't let them out tonight. The poor fellow had a hard time camping in the oak tree Last time I made that mistake. Amara's Challenge The first three stanzas were written back in '97, the rest were Amara's fault. |

My fault? This is nothing to be faulted for! I have the honour of being credited with this poem, is more like it. Every heart has hidden treasures...a secret wish, a silent dream, and a cherished love. [Unknown] |
