Cheers! Before the quenching crystal sips Of effervescence touch my lips The tang and gaiety of fizz Invoke the thoughts of “was” and “is” Sputtering spews of sparkling brew In stemware’s soft translucent hue And quiet, gentle bubbling hiss Can rouse a yearn to reminisce A velvet sip of shimmering blend Is like a warm embracing friend It spits like putter of drizzling rain But softens edges of a pain Two bells of glass in tingling chime Toll brittle moments etched in time As if the chapel bells had rung The silent hymns yet to be sung On slender stem in finger’s grasp Aloft sweet contents of a glass My heart contained in goblet’s gloss A toast to love, A tear to loss Elizabeth Santos |
