Beyond Intimacy

Black. And an accumulation of surf
Swollen with conviction
As miles offshore the remnants of a tropical depression
Continue to prosecute.
Thought thunders accusations
While the wind flogs bits of conscience
That break and run,
Daring the narrow opening in the blanket
And the fleshy sand
Like skin hung horizontally.
Expression, suddenly imprisoned,
Shivers. Manacles of cold
Hammer at their wrists and ankles.
Exposed to touch:
Thigh.
Breast.
A ribbon of blood
That licked from a finger tip
Tastes of salt.
Abandoned,
The once lovely yacht
Wallows.

Sunshine....I was never very good at math. Smiling. But thank you.

Severn.....In the confusing days of the mid-1970s I once applied for enlistment into the Royal New Zealand Navy. They kindly wrote back, thanking me for my interest, but expressing that that was not possible. However, the following year they did send a light cruiser to participate in Portland's Rose Festival. I still recall the afternoon I saw it steam up the Columbia River. Thank you for your kind remarks. Bob  PS Oh yes, and should you find yourself in the vicinity of the Admiralty you might also extend my belated thanks for the light cruiser. They didn't really have to do that. I was already getting over the rejection. Chuckles.

Stunning imagery.  I've known people like that yacht, and I've known ships that take on human-like characteristics ... mostly given to her by the brave men, past and present, that serve.
