In the FoldsLast evening lingers, unwilling to age Still, a hesitation on the morning stair A fragment torn but forgiven its rage Could the night have afforded repair? The edges of words not spoken aloud Frayed, fringed within the girder of guilt Steam sliding, pressing the seams of the shroud Laced linens wither in the folds of this quilt Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Thank you, Martie...we must be mutually wow~ed, because yours keeps me consistantly in awe. Mike, I was actually hoping you'd have a chance to read this one. It fell together in just a few minutes this morning, and while writing, I was hoping to convey as much of the relationship as possible within as few lines as I could manage. Thank you for such an encouraging response. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Nice work Claire, I especially like the imagery in the lines... Steam sliding, pressing the seams of the shroud Laced linens wither in the folds of this quilt. Very Nice indeed. |

Wonderful as always Claire, "The edges of words not spoken aloud Frayed, fringed within the girder of guilt" How I wish that sometimes, those words were spoken, and not just lost in the folds of anger. . . Simply wonderful. . . ------------------------------------------------------------------- That which gives light must endure burning --Victor Frankl |

Claire Magical phrases float on your page, in a beautiful mist, yet the meaning clear. That is a rare talent , my dear Liz |

This is exquisite! I've got to memorize it! It tells such a haunting, poignant story, and I can almost smell that hot iron steaming over the shroud! I was especially caught by the line "Could the night have afforded repair?" This is a powerful painting! |

Ms. Claire - Perhaps I read into this wrongly, or at least differently than others. I don't see beauty in this, though you use such flowing phrases. I see this indeed, with a depth of sadness that few poems can engender. I feel the heart's aching pain, I hear the fists of rage. All silently un-spoken, yet screaming out through a melding of whispered words. HUGS my friend. [This message has been edited by Christopher (edited 04-26-2000).] |

sunshine, thank you for reading this and letting me know what you think. I appreciate your words so much. Rex, thank you. You know, within all emotion lies beauty, I think, and I am trying to keep my eyes alert to those splashes of color along the path, more and more ...I promise. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Claire~ You write even your pain with tenderness, beauty and elegance. You share each heartbeat, each tear and each hug with the uniqueness that is you. Your poetry never ceases to touch me in some way and I thank you for that. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |
