I got to thinking, (I know that is dangerous   but ...) what about if the moderators while doing their rounds, tagged in a moderator forum their choice of a poem or poet of the month, then at the end of the month the votes get tallied, and that person's work is highlighted through an announcement or something with a link to their stash of poetry, and the poem of the month selected?  There are SO many great poets here but because this board moves so fast, unless you are familiar with their work, others miss out on it.

Just a thought that on a sunny Saturday, made me go, "hmmmmmm."   Mornin Ron.

Well would you consider poem or poet of the year soon?

I kind of like this idea, Mysteria, because I confess, I do not read every single poet. It not only would draw that talent to my view but perhaps would be a great encouragement to some wonderful poets much overlooked.  Maybe there should be more than one, though....maybe that would give more folks a chance for the spotlight and make less for hurt feelings.  Or maybe...a poet of the week or poem of the week?  I know this would be alot of additional work for the moderators, but it is a thought.  Anyhow....my two cents.....jo

I have seen some forums that do this ... but with the on-going stages of growth and extra software to help along the way, PIPs may not have that much"movement" allowed for it.
It is a great idea and I for one never do get to read everyone ... a suggestion might be to rather have a MUST READ section ... rather than bother the all ready busy Moderators, members can suggest their fav poet/poem and someone in Admin. level can select a post or two from there .... no time limits ... just when a special write comes along.

I believe that every poet here deserves recognition, but in fairness to all, only a few can be featured through a period of time.

... maybe in a forum like FEELINGS suggestions for a featured post can be made?

... just an opinion laced by thought.

How about a top ten just like a music countdown maybe quarterly...Paul
It may not serve any real purpose except to acknowledge some of the great poets we have here at PIP but it would be fun and would give us something to strive for.

ctowen I love your idea!  The object was really in my mind to get more people read than just the "regulars."  Feelings is a great place to suggest a poem to folks, and I am sure people in here will quite glad if I quit emailing them to them to read   Thank you for that suggestion.  When I see someone's work that slipped and is a nice piece of work I think I will just put a link in there.  Good thinking!

Sharon, you can keep sending the links to me...no problemo.  I sometimes take absences and that draws me back...and your taste, well, I think it is impeccable and I probably would not have started reading some of the poets I do now if you hadn't sent the link.  ...*hugs*....jo

Yanno what would be really cool?

If this includes stuff from the archives.

(Have a seat, Ronnie Baby, I'll handle this. )

I, serenity blaze, hereby nominate as Pip's first featured poet--Michael Anderson!

Anyone second the motion?

Because....

it was by referral I came to read Michael for the first time myself

his writing is among the best I've read in any medium

we are fortunate to count him a member here at Pip and this seems a perfect opportunity to   introduce him to others who may not have been around when his poetry was found on these pages   more regularly.

And because I simply felt like hearing myself talk for bit tonight...

I second the motion K...

lol
and I am echoing duncan and ms serenity, I am missing mr andersons offerings
but am not altogether sure about the whole concept, unless beaucoup d'artists are featured in a "carousel" of sorts
sheesh, there are so many that have graced these pages that some 'newbies' might never read otherwise!

...for instance, the above three (not countin me!) would be fine and dandy and of course, and ms mysteria? you have gifted us with so many fine writes!

so if it comes to pass, maybe we could load up the ol carousel and give it a spin?

I also agree that this might work well in FEELINGS
forum, or the LOUNGE.

I agree with you Karen, as I try to read most of Michael's work here, and on the main pages   Duncan, good to hear you speak too by the way.  There are so many great pieces in the archives here from the old days.

Okay...how's about this idea then?  We have a thread called, "Recommend A Poem" even?  That way those poems like Michael's, Wilfred Yeats, can be seen by the new folks around here.  You grow as a writer the more you read I think, and it beats t.v.

If I lose on this suggestion, you will find me in the archives dusting off the shelves as per usual.  I don't usually leave a comment when I read, but from now on I will and maybe people will catch a ride from there.

K - you are a nut!

The idea of a single thread suggesting recommendations is a great idea, and bringing such work out of the Archives such as Michael's is even better. I would think that it wouldn't matter where the forum was to be used ..... for anyone interested will find their way.

Thank you M for bringing all this about,
to Duncan for sharing insight ( thought you were lost ),
and to KC for shining her light.

I knew Michael BEFORE PiP...he and I submitted poetry to the main site about the same time. Any awards that go to him are richly deserved. His poetry is unique.

What about we put a new thread in the "Workshop?"  Seems a logical place, as we will be learning from the reading won't we?

All help is appreciated...Paul

Maybe if anyone has a suggestion of a poet they enjoyed reading, they could post it in the Workshop in the thread linked below so others could enjoy them too?  We moved it to the Workshop for continuation, and thank you for your participation.

....snif....search gives nothing, Sunshine's link gives an empty PiP display.....guess I'm out in the cold on this one.

Aha, there he is -- too much information is as misleading as too little.... YES -- I've never read his work here, but after only two, chosen completely at random from the list, I fully agree!

Maybe it should be posted in one of the discussion forums, like the lounge. I've been back and forth noticing that the post hasn't gotten many replies OR suggested reading.. I think a forum that has more traffic would be more suitable?

Then again, I may be wrong!

Love you all. xoxoxoxo

Announcements would make a great place for poet of the month, poem of the month, poet of the year etc., just like the birthday announcements.
There could be the vote box thing on our poems like it was when we were voting for the book submissions.
Everyone could vote and vote in secret.

And maybe after the voting, there could be a tag, and when that poet post for a month, their name will have this symbol attached whenever they post at pip, maybe a crown? (flashing of course) LOL!

Just some input~

Good input, Megan.

But what about just honoring a poet of your choice in Announcements and Links?

Let's say,

you are in "one of those" moods, and a particular poet has filled your sensitivities with some amazing word usage...or captured a feeling that you thought only YOU felt...

Why not honor them by bringing their poem to A&L?  On your own?

Personally...I can think of many poets I could honor in that fashion...

because some of us just read the discussion forums...and might miss such love.

Another thought...to add to the above.

Good idea. I think that'd work  in A&L. I'll do it, for sure, there's poets aplenty!

Not to overlook ALL the great poets here...

Michael Anderson is definitely one of the best writers I have ever read (including all the classical poets, such as, Keats, Poe, Frost). Michael is a bright star in this vast universe. His poetry must have wings, because it certainly soars!

Paula, I still read his work at least once a week.  There was no one I enjoyed more that could write pure poetry than that wonderful man.

Yeats is one of my all time favorites as well.  Definately one of the best at stirring up emotion in his readers imho.
