it isn't just trash if it's recomposed if it's selected shaped in your image presto another idol worshiped for convenience to show trash is not what you think either from the dumpster or the two legged variety propped near the bin when plastic is sorted from the paper from food scraps chicken bones a lone cat nibbles it isn't just trash 'cause there's something to pick to shine return to a former glory if it's selected then worshiped an alternative to conveyor belt copies a masked quality it calls out after a careful spit grubby, roofless homeless hand shine recycled to thrive again. I love this poem. It reminds me of when we lived in Indonesia. Our house had a wall around it but in the corner of the wall between the yard and the street was a trash bin that emptied out onto the street. We would empty our trash daily, and by the time evening rolled around, everything was gone. One by one, people would walk by, look through it, and find things they could use...glass bottles, plastic bottles, plastic bags, cans. I never realized what I was throwing away until I saw how others made use of it. Nothing went to waste. |

As the saying goes, "One man's garbage is another man's treasure." As a throw-away society, we should learn to "Waste not ~ want not!" I enjoyed your poem, Martin! Warm hug, Linda |

My parents lived through the great depression, so it was instilled in us from very young not to waste. Our garbage was almost non-existant as our animals ate any left-overs, and plastic was not yet available. Imagine that! Rae |

::smiles:: I have 4 computers...all of which were someones elses "trash" that I pulled from various dumpsters. If it were not for the "trash" of others...I would literally have no furniture or clothing at all. When I go to the dumpster to throw my own trash away...I am often thrilled with my findings. Like a kid at Christmas. Recently I found an old trunk with comic books from the 50s. I Love Lucy, Gunsmoke, Cheyenne. They fed my family and paid my bills for a month. ::smiles:: It's all gravy, baby. Wonderful write ! |

Definitely it's all gravy, someone else's treasure as it comes and goes...also have seen the trend to plastic, away from twist top jars to safety seals and from wine bottles to an amalgam of cardboard and aluminium..it's all good to waste and go off to someone else's castle... |
