he sits in vieux carre
head between hands
staring at dusty feet
breathing stale air

calypso is dead
rotting in his lapel
Panama droops on weary knee

cathedral bells
ship horns
trumpets
giggling women
sing
café au lait
perfume
cross his smelling
still he sits
empty carapace

quick fresh breeze
fingers his heart
lady’s voice?
mais oui

he turns
raw silk skirt
slit side
familiar  leg
lady laugh

on her arm
a fat boy
round legs
arms
rosy lip bent to milk bubbles
dark shadow hair
tiny hand
reaches for breast
no no no
lady grabs fist
red lip bends to mother love
milk teeth flash
she kisses a soft cheek
tickles a round tummy
deep
heart deep in love

charcoal man’s eyes seek hers
she turns away
   lady
she does not answer

   lady
   my heart pains
she smiles
oui
I know darlin’
qui m'a fait souffert aussi long temps
pour ça
I suffered so long

   please lady
   just look
lady’s breath is wrapped in stop
heart does not beat right
red lip bends to moment
   lady please
   my heart aches

she craves arms around him
head in shallow valley between his shoulders
smelltaste of him

he holds shaky hand
toward her
dry mouth whispers
   lady
she reaches for breath
finds none
her heels turn
she looks at him
lost again

ah mon homme
allons  à la maison
let’s go
home
ol ‘gator will think
we gone forever

his smile is small
weary
   the chouchoot
   mon fils?
red lip bends to shy smile
lady twirls her pretty self
laughs
oui papa
buy a cigar for you
and a noonie for your chouchoot

charcoal man
slips Panama to boy’s tiny head
kisses lady’s red lip
when he can have cigar beb?
lady slaps at charcoal man
misses
mon rogue!

il commence
il finit

I applaud you, Lady Kate! This magnolia series kept one's attention from the inception to the denouement. A class 'A' piece of writing! Totally captivating and compelling!

Lady...the color and magic of this series plays like a movie...could be a movie, but who, who could play the roles as well as poetry?

may I simply say Brava! And thank you!

Again, your imagery and way with words and rythm astound me. A wonderful piece, though I am sorry to see the series end.

And thank you so much also for your kind comments on my poems.
