herb saint
mudbug chimneys
bare feet travel
dusty river road

voyages à la maison de la maman
home to maman

ah mon doucette
maman breathes
cream does not always
rise to the top
dit mon la verite’
tell me the truth
are you finished

oh maman
lady weeps
red lip bending to sorrow
amber eyes
each precise black eyelash
awash
I got the mal au couer
the fatigué
I am so ill
at heart

maman wraps her
enfant de fille
in prayers
warms her
in mother’s love
beds her on the garry porch
where the breeze floats memories away

make do-do my bébé
all is well

lady tucks
half moon fingers
in palms of hands
squeezes hard
sleeps to dream of
