Dust In Rays Of Sunlight

This morning I woke up feeling kind of sad
a feeling of lonely, or of something else I had
I got myself a cup of coffee and opened up the shade,
trying to get the memory of yesterday to fade.
I stripped the sheets off the bed, smoked a cigarette
began to fill the trash can with things I should forget.

Dust looks neat in rays of sunlight, like a galaxy
it made me stop a moment, and I thought of you and me.
Somewhere between welling tears and a half-cracked smile
I ended up in the chair to think a little longer while.

I thought of the scent of your cologne after you have gone,
years of doing what we did, even admitting it was wrong.
I always wondered why we couldn't say exactly what we meant
until right before the foreplay and right after we'd been spent.

As I sat calmly, I reached for the brush to put up my hair
the sun disappeared leaving me questioning what I'd seen there,
why something beautiful but insignificant made me think of you
an unexpected memory, fancy that, just hit me from the blue.

A little tinge of happiness came in a lesson learned today
I suppose there are certain things in life that cannot be thrown away.

..."I suppose there are certain things in life that cannot be thrown away."

YOur title is epic...and I enjoyed the flow of your thoughts.

No, nothing can strip one's memories
except "Al".  And that won't happen
for quite a while...

and look, you've left a legacy
in words,
for others,
for family,
for friends,

and possibly, future loves.

It so often happens that insignificant little things bring back meaningful memories.  Well said, Dixie!

That's what makes you beautiful

you are able to see
hear and feel

even smell

the scent of life

no matter how simple

beautiful.

Love,
Reg
