NOTES FROM THE CHRISTMAS CARDS I SENT

Dear Magi,
I am sorry
to inform you
that the light
you follow
in the eastern sky
is the rocket’s glare

Dear Angels and Carollers,
please
keep singing,
for when you pause
I hear
the moans
of children
too weak
to scream

Dear Shoppers,
I know
your hands
are already burdened
with wish lists
as long
as malls,
but please
take this one
found
scratched
in a thousand
parched fields
ploughed
by cluster bombs
and seeded
with land mines:
something
to eat
something
to drink
a safe place
to sit
and watch
my child play

Dear Santa,
I think
it’s time
that you retired
and removed
that suit
stained red
with the blood
of a million
Christs

Dear Jesus,
nice try

Dear Reader,
Merry Christmas

These are interesting notes and it seems as if they cover a range of philosophies. I particularly relate to this one,
Dear Shoppers,
I know
your hands
are already burdened
with wish lists
as long
as malls,
but please
take this one
found
scratched
in a thousand
parched fields
ploughed
by cluster bombs
and seeded
with land mines:
something
to eat
something
to drink
a safe place
to sit
and watch
my child play
but the caroller one is potent too.
regards
Kethry
