I've been on a steady roll
down a long and rocky road...
With nothing much to show
for the toll it took on me.
Trying hard to find
some kind of peace of mind...
Is it somewhere left behind
or some place I've yet to be ?

Just around the bend...
on a curve that never ends.
That's the way it's always been
and I'm a sorry sight to see.
The miles have taken hold...
Making everything seem old...
Leaving nothing but a hole
where my soul once used to be.

Every thing I've ever had
rode heavy on my shoulders
Every thing I've tried to be
turned out to be all wrong
The flame of Life
that once burned bright
has now begun to smolder
If I knew what I was looking for...
It wouldn't take so long.

Will I know it when I see it?
Did I blow it ?   Did I flee it ?
Was it left behind with you
all those many miles away?
I don't want your heart to break,
but I can't have and eat my cake
Petition God for my sake
Because I don't know what to pray.

Every time my ship comes in...
I cast off and sail again.
I can't even sink or swim.
I'm just lost out in the sea.
Dark black clouds or silver linings...
It seems like both are so damn blinding...
There's no chance of ever finding
anything to comfort me.

Every thing I've ever had
rode heavy on my shoulders
Every thing I've tried to be
turned out to be all wrong
The flame of Life
that once burned bright
has now begun to smolder
If I knew what I was looking for...
It wouldn't take so long.

I think it is human instint to search for something greater then ourselves...perhaps some great love or some spiritual awareness, when all the time those wanton yearnings are right there within us.

very thought provoking poem, well done, as always!

XO, I always believe the best is yet to come. It is easier for me to accept all of the trials and tribulations that I have endured, knowing that they are leading me into a brighter tomorrow!

Keep the faith, Uriah! God loves YOU! ~ and another thing that is for certain, He has blessed you with the gift of sharing your heart and thoughts through your wonderfully expressive writing!

God's Loving Light,
