november sunday morning
aunt bea’s breakfast table
in my little girl slip
bare feet
swinging
to the taste of muscadine jelly
on hot biscuit
goosebumps crawling my arms
uncle lyman
pours black coffee
in saucer
blows
slips it to my mouth
when she's not looking

hand each side my head
she pulls my hair back
looks like you slept with the chickens
    last night
girl what we gonna do with this mess?

november sunday morning
no sun to speak of
I feel warm
wrapped in the sound
of the chuch choir singing
on jordan’s stormy banks I stand
and cast a wishful eye

two hours in the future

___________

Tina took me home
or as we say in the south
"carried me home"
with her catfish this morning

Aww, this is wonderful -- now you both have me thinking of Sunday mornings I have known.

This is so sweet. My granny poured her coffee into a saucer & sipped it. And how I had forgotten sitting at the table in my white cotton slip. Thanks so much for this.
