Lessons of Childhood The red-haired boy played in the sandbox, Dressed in his superman pajamas, Idol of his three-year old life, Even wore the matching underwear on the outside. He wasn’t a superhero today, He was a Clark Kent construction worker, Operating a yellow Tonka dump truck. He yelled out the orders for delivery of loads of sand. The truck drove forward to a rusty slide. (Accompanied By the boy’s imagination of the sound of a dump truck) The workers waited beneath the rungs of the ladder, He-Man figures and half-broken Transformers. The child was oblivious to the world around him, The sound of a car that drove by too fast, the creek As it flowed in its winding way around the house. The Great Dane barked its warning, no matter to the dutiful little Supervisor, he had a site to build. A bumblebee hovered near the third rung of the ladder, Watched as the boy in his superman pajamas Approached And landed. Copyright 2006 Dragot |
