Turn on the world,
Put it on high;
Make up the songs we couldn’t seem to sing
And pray the prayers
We couldn’t swallow whole.
Choke on truths we couldn’t yet hear,
With smoke rising in the city streets,
And children gasping in the summer heat;
In a world full of watery graves
A pleasure taken from impending happiness
Was wished away
By the elixir of hate.
