Hearts in Springtime I sit on the garden path, Awaiting the Springtime thaw. Avoiding the Winter’s wrath, Escaping the darkened maw. As, suddenly, buds will bloom, And sunshine breaks through a cloud, So, too, does it lift the gloom That wrapped my heart as a shroud. Ah! Springtime is Nature’s grace To cherish without a sound As Summer prepares her face To wither Springtime’s ground. But as for me I’ll ponder The wonder that fills the air, As Winter’s thoughts do wander To beauty, and Springtime’s flair. I walk on the garden way, Awaiting the Springtime rain And know that I shall not stay Or visit this place again. For Springtime’s flowers charm me, As graceful as butterflies, But sharing them not with thee, Brings tears to dampen my eyes. And that’s why the Winter found A sadness within my heart, Awaiting a Springtime thaw To soften my cold, cold heart. And soften it did, I fear. As my heart is want to mend, While singing with springtime cheer, On a foolish knee I bend. Ah! Perennial is Love --Certain as Springtime Flowers, As Heaven sent from above-- Springtime rains start to shower And you, my love, I search for, Before the flowers give way To Summer’s lack of succor For everything bright and gay. When, sudden as Winter ends, We see each other, alone, While finding a love that mends, Is music in love’s pure tone. Hand-in-hand we look to start A pathway that’s ours to find, If love opens up your heart, And Springtime’s joy clears your mind. I prefer to be a dreamer among the humblest, with visions to be realized, than lord among those without dreams and desires. -Khalil Gibran |
