five fallen angels knew
the trust of fingers ten and grew
to forty thousand wings and you
are just a feathering in hues
of salmon pink and blues in blue
mathematically unproved

five fallen angels knew

and left the seedlings aware.

Why does my heart stick in my throat reading this?  I'm watching for feathers, Karen!  This is intricate and innately beautiful.... Seeds aware... and planted, too!

"splain" this will you?  However, I do like it - but darned if I know what it means, and if I told you what I got, you would not beleive me.  I saw kids.

I love the title.  Half an apple, shared tart on the front porch of an old house...evening, summer...'

Cut an apple in half, and quite often you will see five seeds, in the center.

Five fallen angels...the apple falls from the tree. It begins degenerating immediately. Now some could say that this seperation of fruit from its lifesource is a death.

"the trust of fingers ten and grew"

This apple was held by human hands, and the seeds re-planted.

Forty thousand wings, etc. This is my own little mystery, forty has spiritual significange in scripture, all those zeroes behind it, are merely to indicate generations of "eternities" for both the apple and the person that was implied in the poem. (Eternity is not a very long time--it is an absence of time.)

"salmon pink and hues in blue" I am describing how I imagine the apple would see us, in terms of light and color, as a sort of aura, and perhaps as an angel of death.

five fallen angels knew--this is the genetic intelligence encoded in the five seeds

and left the seedlings aware

five new trees, growing again, just to do it all over again.

And why an apple? Because it is notorious as being the pictured fruit of the tree of knowledge in the Garden of Good and Evil, as well as a symbol of love, for in witchlore, the five seedlings encased in the circle of the seedpod represent a pentacle, as well as an occult symbol of the planet Venus, which is representative of course, as the Goddess of Love.

So yes, after some consideration, I have decided that Adam is okay--he did blame the fall from Grace on Eve, but Eve also blamed it on the snake. So considering all the buck passing, I figgered it was even. And further, if you believe in an ominscient, omnipresent God, then you have to consider that God knew the nature of his creation, and put that tree there knowing full well they would eat of it.

And yes, (this is for Stephanos) I do believe that this is a parable. I do believe it cast dark aspersions on the inevitable loss of innocence, which is necessary for procreation of humanity. What I don't like is the negative connotations implied as to what should be viewed as a sacremental rite of creation.

Yes, the Garden of Eden WAS paradise. So was the blissful ignorance of childhood and innocence.

Yep--I saw all that in half an apple...

and look ma, no DRUGS!

(and my apologies if my explanation ruined it for some of you--I've been told that explaining takes away from the interpretation. But I have also been accused of writing stuff that means absolutely nothing just to give the appearance of "deep thought." Go figger. But I promise you there are more layers even in my explanation.  *wink* to Jo Jo.)

Thanks for reading, and love to all.

and ooops, I forgot one.

A very poignant poem. I enjoyed learning about the seeds in "half an apple".  I'm sure we can all come to a different conclusion of what it resembles and means, but I like yours.

Lady K, always, you hold back
an extra seedling of thought,
to trigger the creative chef in me.

I once sliced apples so the 'star' would appear;
called it my 'holy apple pie' (uncooked, topless version),
sprinkled it with devil's dust
(cinnamon and sugar).... voila!
...a pie they would never forget.
