5623 “The Man in the Box” 19 August 2006 Someone stole my brother. Mr Cancer put him in the ground. And every year age grows older, yet of his gentle voice there was no sound! Someone took that love, that lasts anyway. Because no one can take those memories, as they fade. So what was this, the day he last did smile. An image upon a mind, just not seen now for a while. “The man in the box”, his childhood nephew said. That man of forgiving and love, a man who will always live, because he was in heaven above “So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my hire before thy face: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted stolen with me.” Genesis 30: 33 KJV © 2006 Christopher W Herbert (a New Zealand Poet) a poet who cares |

I'm sorry about your brother. He will have his own immortality with your poetry. Joyce |

Sigh. What a strong and lasting analogy... ...but, in a box no longer. -Bob |

How true that when they're gone our love for them lives on as do the fond memories. Rae |

My brother might have died in April 1998, but the memory is all I have now to hold on too And if it is in the forum, you can keep the poem, only remember who wrote it a poet who cares |
