She Dances In Her Heart I WHO WALK Looked down and saw her there -- All beautifully alone. I heard them whispering ear to ear -- Her legs are dead as stone. But her head was high her eyes intent -- On what she knew -- she'd never be a part. Then her gaze met mine -- I smiled -- She knew I knew -- She dances in her heart. I WHO WALK Kneeled down before her whispering -- May I have this dance with you? Before her giggly no -- I swept her from Her chair -- around the room we flew. I danced on legs of strength -- she danced On air -- her feet and floor this far apart. And with her arms around my neck -- I smiled. She knew I knew -- She dances in her heart. I WHO WALK I the coward who runs from love -- If ever love would come to near. But I Danced with she -- who couldn't walk -- Who clung to me -- in faith.. not fear. I sat her gently down her smile it lit the night. Then her soul --- so quickly did depart. Her in my arms -- I Cried not yet! -- but knew The dancing died inside her heart. I WHO WALK Kneeled with flowers setting them -- Each one just right above her grave. I pondered just how precious -- is this life? If God -- to her so precious little gave. I cried as always --why not me?-- as I read The words there carved in stone -- the part That said -- Where ever she may be -- She dances now on legs of strength --- I smiled-- She knew I knew -- She dances in her heart. She dances in my heart. My neice was paralyzed with cancer and I used to dance with her, she in her wheel chair, to the Texas two-step, waltzes, you name it. Thanks for this memory-dredging piece ![]() Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write. |

David, I'm not too good with responses, but just wanted you to know that I really liked this. The dancing continued long after the poem. Usually when I read a poem, I appreciate it for the blink of a moment, and then it is gone. Not this one... misC |

This one is effectively done. I know it's effective because I'm sitting at my desk in the office sniffling. Lovely ending. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

Mixed emotions inspired by your poem both incredibly uplifting and sorrowful but all very very much enjoyed. -Bob |

Thank all of you for your kind words. There is a story behind this poem and maybe one day I will share it with you. It was a poem written out of fear for what might have happen to my #1 very young granddaugher back in december new years eve 1999/2000. I'm sorry for some of you if I brought up sad memories, but maybe the poem gave you hope there is a better place on the other side of the river especially for the young and the brave. David D Jerald |

David..... Your spirit shines as much as hers. She dances in her heart, and you hold her in yours. I think your name must fit you wonderfully! Such life you pen, despite the sadness.~ K |

Sometimes silence speaks more than my words can. I sat here with this box open and just could not type as I thought of how deeply you moved me. aziza |
