Lumpy Oatmeal makes me Crazy!

Red Rubber Boots

She proudly wears red rubber boots
and a grin that lights up an impish face
as she stomps into a puddle and splashes.
Then running out of the water to return to her wagon,
But, the puddles call her back and she must go.
Back and forth, red boots stamping,
water splashing and one small child
so proud of what she can do all by herself.
Such a simple pleasure and honest joy
which gets lost as more grown-up things are learned.
I watch and marvel at being allowed to be a spectator
and then I take her hand as she offers it to me
and step into her world.

maybe she can teach
the munchkin not to be
so prissy .. so she'll
jump in puddles too

I try to get her to stomp
in the puddles with me
but she says "MOMMMMM I'll get WET!"

the best times
are when the rubber boots
are in the kids section

I do it now and they tuxy boys
call the cops on me
maybe it because I made the puddle
in the ballroom with the firehose

   and making mud pies.
