we both wanted what
was never given,
needed what was never there...

our time came,
then left,
(all too quickly it seemed)
leaving regrets
enough to pass around
for eons to come...

there was blindness that
clouded our vision,
darkness that shielded
light of day,
words we forgot to say
though many were said
most with little meaning...

days we did not live,
for somehow we lost our way,
or perhaps took the
wrong fork when roads
divided into many...

It matters not, it's over;
indifference took its toll
and yet another
'love for the ages'
sank into murky, dark depths...

still, there are times
I feel like a Messiah,
wanting to raise
Lazarus yet again,
booming voice crying to the winds
BE HEALED, COME FORTH!

much like my plastic Jesus
which melted on my lamp
as a good catholic child,
(wanting to see it
glow in the dark)
it will never be healed...

when snow comes to the Midwest,
the wind blows wondrous
flakes against your skin,
once more you wonder
of 'maybe', 'if only',
and pangs of loneliness
grasp you ever so subtly;

please know from the warmth
of my bed,
I remember your name, face,
touch, laughter and smile...

and passion...my God the passion
which drove us wild,
made us want more,
then more, even more,
until we collapsed,
still hungry for the other...

yes, I remember you
were once mine,
stars shone in your eyes,
the world evolved around
your face, your name,
but it was years ago...

another universe,
another man,
and now,
it is no more...

Lazarus is too far gone...

For it was not into my ear you whispered
But into my heart..
It was not my lips you kissed
But my soul.
