Unlike the brave Colossus of Greek fame Who held his ground unshaken where he stood Our sea washed symbol hops from should to could A fallen promise dousing out her flame Imprisoned tears to undermine her name Mother of Exiles, stuck in the mud Fades when a welcome misunderstood Is misquoted and turned inward towards blame “Keep off our lands, you lack our pomp!” cries she With curling lip “ Go back you tired, you poor You huddled masses yearning to be free, You wretched refuse from another shore Send not the homeless, tempest-tossed to me My lamp is dead and wedged against the door!” |

brother stone knows this. and he knows she is french, and french are famous for saying pompous things they don't really mean. i like it better when people don't say much but they mean it all. brother also likes sonnets even though i have never made one. this one is very good and it makes me wish i had. |
