Thank you for the heartache
And the whimpering at night.
Thank you for the promise that
“Everything would be alright”
Did I thank you for the splinters
As my world crashed round my head?
Or for making me believe
In every twisted thing you said?
Should I cover you in glory,
Hang your portrait on my wall?
For taking me to heights
From which you knew that I’d soon fall.

Thank you for the crushing,
When the crush became too much,
The left behind, and out my mind
emotions - I'm so touched.
Never mind the tears and torture
From a wound that never mends
I think all that was covered when you said,
“We can still be friends”
I think I’m all done thanking now,
As I lie alone here in my bed
But I’d thank you one more time
If I could get you out my head.

Grinch,
Ouch! Sarcasm at a new level. Proof some pity parties are bigger than others. I must say as to form, you write very well, In my humble opinion. As to experience, I have felt the pain. Thanks for the reminder. I truly hope all is well soon. Time is your friend. Peace.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Larry,

I’m not going to say “thanks” mainly because I know the word it replaced in the above effort but I do appreciate you taking the time to read it and the kind words regarding my attempt.

BTW

Don’t tell my wife I wrote this, I’d hate for her to get any ideas – after 20 something years I’ve grown accustomed to her.

I love this write. It's first class satire in flowing lines.

Ah, an enjoyable love-pain write, dripping with  just the right touch of bitterness.

Your words hooked me.
This is my second read of your poem.
It's cynical and wonderful in the bite.
Good writing.
