I spent all of my thirties,
Just "Goin' down the road."
Although I made a living,
Too often I got throwed.

Each pile-up took it's toll I guess,
One day I realized...
The guys that I was riding with,
Were kids! What a surprise!

I threw away my youth like that,
And likewise went my health.
And middle-aged before you start-
Don't tend to lead to wealth.

And romance is for dreamers-
It's hard to find a wife,
Who'll widow for the Circuit...
And the rough-stock rider's life.

The hot streak I was riding-
Overnight turned out so cold.
At "fifty-three and holding"-
Friends say I'm getting old.

I look back on years I've lived...
And wonder where they've gone,
And all that lies before me,
Are my sunset years...alone.

John, this touches deeply but moreso that i can relate

we all look around and see kids around us and realize our youth is gone...soon they will too...the cycle goes on

kinda sad, but I guess we all make choices in life...I know I made some bad ones myself

Slinger~
So nice to see you back here at the PiP Corral~

Your rodeo days may be over
but, it's sure nice to see
that you've spent more than 8 seconds on
that prize named POETRY~

Your poetry always rings the bell~

Hey Cowboy!
I've missed reading you...
So good to see you posting once again.
I love your rodeo stories.

For it was not into my ear you whispered
But into my heart..
It was not my lips you kissed
But my soul.
