One Grain of Sand

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

There's a woman on the moon
and a dragon in the cloud
there's a warrior in the stars
a million faces in the crowd

there are flame-throwers in the sun
and a billion waves in the sea
there's a shore that is a sandbox
made just for you and me
that hides one grain of sand to be
a cultured pearl to tell our destiny.

The dragon ate the woman whole
while the warrior stood by defeated
the flame-throwers charged the beast
it roared and thrashed as it retreated
it crashed to sea, devoured our shore
then swam away to plan its next endeavor
and not one of the faces turned as we
lost the grain that held "forever".

What inspired this, Dixie?
It's a sad but lovely poem-story, and well executed.

thank you all

Sunshine, I was looking up at the night sky, seeing the clouds roll over the moon...one of the clouds happened to look like a dragon's head with mouth open as it passed over the moon (but instead of picturing a man in the moon, I pictured a woman).

Then I thought of how storms come and how the sun fights its way through...how clouds rain into the ocean and the ocean sweeps ashore taking the sand out with it.

Of course Orion was the warrior, who just looks mighty and gives a gallant effort but really can do nothing when it comes down to it...

all the hard battles going on right under our noses and we don't even notice sometimes...shame.

I have found that not many people understand this poem for some reason. This is an old one of mine, when I was just out of college. I'm thinking I should go back again
