Nebulous The nebulous of obscure Each moment in its flight Is the cosmos of my lure? And my wonder of delight Dead pan I drift into the truss Sifting through the dust and grime Surrounding me with impetus Reading through the sands of time And though some reads seem but a whim I know each grain in true a door I never spill the sands in trim To fill the winds of evermore I do regret my time is short The river of infinity’s wend This web of space and time I’m caught Is quickly coming to an end But I have faith in the undo And feel somehow it will renew |

Yes, yes...renew, indeed... for the spirit of your love, life, gifts, soul... those will go on, and on. Think high, Sy... and wave to the sun, and moon.... |

"And though some reads seem but a whim I know each grain in true a door I never spill the sands in trim To fill the winds of evermore" Mr. Tabin, it has been much too long since I've read you. "I know each grain in true a door" And I so badly wish I'd written that line... |

When I was a kid and I read Dr. Seuss's "Oh the Places You Will Go" never did I dream that the vehicle would be an adorable huggable poetry man named seymour tabin. You are a beautiful way to start the day, sy. |

Good morning, S.T. (Seymour Tabin a.k.a. But I have faith in the undo And feel somehow it will renew ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Selah (for Sy) I left you in winter, the snow stilling my departure, the wind stealing my breath, much the way the season takes the leaves you love so; much the way the cold conceals the colors, the greens you wear in disguise. Mourn me now as you would the loss of summer, as you would should you be kept from sunshine. Collect your tears as winter wanes, reflect on all I whispered across the distance, defining constance in psalms of subtle rhyme. I left behind the wisdom of well spoken words ... The humility of forgiveness, the humanity of patience, the fortitude of truth. The sacrifice of seasons, the climax in cycles of time, I am now part of so much more; spirituality of water, commitment of mountains, enlightenment of sky. Forego epitaphs or eulogies, honor me instead with seeds of Sycamore trees. I'll hold the moon in my branches and the earth's mysteries in my roots. My leaves will carry the wind then weep color when winter reclaims. Spring will keep my promises, I'll be reborn as bare trees turn back into forests, beside you on each exploration, the path not yet taken -- the urging of curiosity, the cadence of your steps. Time like words are fluent, my prayers written in rhymed refrain, this humble poet's turn of page ... to pass through is to remain. jm 02/08 *Selah (Hebrew)[see-luh] may be the most difficult word in the Hebrew Bible to translate. Selah is a liturgico-musical mark, something like "stop and listen". Selah is similar to Amen; stressing the importance of the preceding passage. Alternatively, Selah may mean "forever", as referenced in the liturgy. Another interpretation offers that Selah comes from the Hebrew root word [calah] which means 'to hang,' (ie: Hebrew, to remain/return) Selah has been interpreted by biblical usage to measure the passage of time and terms of value. ~~~~~~~ Through the water Through the rain To the soul of everything Wash my heart out On the stones And I'm almost gone ... David Gray promise kept ... thank you Sy ... for everything. these remnants of a voice and smile, landscapes cloaked in forest green ... like your life unfolding mile by mile. V.Teng |

Thank you Marge, KA, Sharon & LadyTom. I appreciate you helping me honor our darling Sy. I was struggling to find the words to do him justice and then I said what would Sy say. He loved the idea of planting a tree in his name so perhaps this spring we can plant him a forest. *smile* He was the most genuine, gentleman and I am better and blessed for knowing him. thanks again, jm these remnants of a voice and smile, landscapes cloaked in forest green ... like your life unfolding mile by mile. He visits often I am sure. A man and a poet who touched our hearts so deeply that indeed he will never be forgotten. Somewhere else too his beautiful spirit is enjoyed. Love, Margherita |

This is so very special, JM, as he was and also you. If a flower is plucked by some raging storm, its seeds will set another bloom, its petals will enrich the ground, and nothing will be lost or forgotten. In spring new flowers will color the hills, and from a mound of plain, brown earth life will return. |

thank you sweet Martie for joining me in honoring Sy...I love the verse you left. You captured exactly what Sy often spoke of in his poetry...we live on through nature. I still have one more tree to plant as part of a promise made ... A SYcamore. *smile* these remnants of a voice and smile, |

Oracle Once, in (seemingly) lighthearted conversation, you told me (you believed) there were three kinds of people in the world, those that worshiped oceans ... those who levitated to mountains, and those who only acclimated when surrounded by both. Placing your self in the first category, then telling of your most cherished travels, you spoke of a far away place where both ocean and land claimed your spirit in the most verdant shade of green your aging eyes had seen. By way of your rhymes, I knew those eyes understood the promise of passing seasons, the honesty of trees, (confessions of falling leaves) and the (sometimes heart-breaking) truth of tides. Sonnets that read like scripture, cadenced guidance ... versed visions of humility and humor endearing you to us all. Our resident wise man, sharing personal prophecy inked with brotherly love, and grandfatherly wisdom. "give back to the earth what you take away, accept then respect what can not be changed, there is harmony in the cycles" Recently, I stood humbled by impressive elevations, awestruck with scenic admiration as the horizon shared its endless expanse with both peak and tide. Blue and green defined in panoramic revelations, truth saturated in grandeur and majesty ... poetry will never do the view justice. (Just as mere words will never speak eloquently enough to express the legacy you left.) Might a photograph be an epitaph for things now understood ... You are a part of all of this ... not just the tide's shoreline kiss. Also the mountain's reaching rise, the blues and greens of earth's reprise. Conversation or couplet, your words were chosen well ... poetic tears wept, each a promise kept, secrets meant to tell. jm2009 So I’m gathering all the remnants of beauty From this wilderness in spin Same thing that's scrawled across the stars Is written under our skin ... Well I can not believe you finally got the view meant for you. I am certain that you did see it through the eyes of the wise, which added to that wonder. I think of him often as well when I am the smallest by the shore. |

Within nature lies the wisdom of all things, and within some men lies the wisdom of life, but rare it is that special someone that carries both ... Sy carried both from his unique understanding and his appreciation and he shared that with us all unselfishly. |

When my time is done, if one heart remembers me as fondly as we remember you, dear Sy... I will sigh in the contentment of a life well lived. JM... the beauty of your work and the love and understanding in every line leave me with such an overflowing heart, my only coherent communication's the tears sliding down my cheeks. This is stunning... |

Sharon, Karen, Dave, Mark, Ruth...thank you so much for adding to this tribute and honoring his memory...its hard to believe its been a year already. We're so fortunate to have all his wisdom rhymes here as well as his endearing replies. So many times he made me laugh out loud with his uncanny wit and randy dragon humor. As I told a friend the other day... Sy just always "got it" Archives of the Heart. "I'm trying to spell what only the wind can explain" |

Ah the beauty of recall. The gentle nudge words offer of the past. And the ever-presnt impact of a life well lived and imprinted through wisdom expressed eloquently while he was hear. Thank you jm for keeping such possibilities alive in your own expressions that also teach and inspire. It's so good to remember. |

Larry & Margherita, thank you so much for sharing your love and respect for Sy. The trees planted as he requested have doubled in size since last spring and have survived ice and wind storms as well as several deep snows. Thanks again to everyone who stopped by in the last year to help me honor him. from his poem... Sy raised Bonsai trees and spoke often of how it relaxed him, it was his request that I plant trees to start a new cycle of longevity and to put focus on the renew rather than the loss. (such a wise owl) *smile* thank you Margherita "I'm trying to spell what only the wind can explain" |

The bonsai tree pic was taken at the Missouri Botanical Garden, I gave Sy a framed copy a few years back. The tree has a long history and a special display area. I thought it the perfect way to sign off on this tribute to him. thanks again ladies. ~~~~~~~~~ Through the water Through the rain To the soul of everything Wash my heart out On the stones And I'm almost gone ...
