the dandelion heralds spring
and sometimes it does bring
out some evil thing
known as a pesticide that kills
the lowliest plants

please
if you can
put away the can of spray
and re-think about what you are doing
do not poison your mother earth
she gave you birth
now thank her
and appreciate the other things
she gave birth to
even if you
are too low on the thinker's scale
to understand or value,
the intrinsic worth
of such a thing

I honor the dandelions
and wish them well
as I wish for all those nasty sprays
to shrivel up
and go to
well,
you know.....

I love this clever, delightful poem with such an important message.  Thank you on behalf of Mother Earth and all her plants and creatures.

I was busy replying to your
exhilarating write
when lo and behold,
I find you enjoying the dandy lions

I feel the same about those deadly sprays but this -

"too low on the thinker's scale
to understand or value,
the intrinsic worth ..."

could apply to so many other things in life.  Well said because a lot of people busy themselves with busy-ness and therefore have no time to think.

And they SHOULD scare you James, and yet, your nice friendly neighbor who sprays...especially  on a windy day, just might be your worst case scenario.
The point is, its all meant to KILL, and it does a good job of that. Fishes, amphibians, birds...

It's the farmers and the neighbors I am concerned about.

I love the poem Kacy. I love dandy lions too.

I know Midnight

But sometimes you can't hand cut all the weeds and in this criminalise everyone and everything UK Government, failing to keep your garden could relate in an anti-social order and five years in jail for breaking it, even if you couldn't have the strength, or the money to pay for someone, or do it yourself.

Really nice poem though when I red it I thought of how this poem can apply to all things that may stand out and we've tried to get rid of or shun out. For example: an awkward hair or mole, a genre of music, a certain religion or belief ...Really dandelions can be anything.
