5295 Singing SOS 13 April 2006 I remember that day the day SOS rang out And of a time, Dancing Queen was the rage Oh how it was ABBA sings the best songs because there was a time of truth and millions in dollars to count Money, money, money and flying like an eagle Words of voice in group of four Swedish and beautiful more so the blond In love with Agnetha and wanting to hold her tight this world of ABBA by God, they got it right ABBA was formed around 1972 by Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Agnetha Fältskog, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad (nicknamed "Frida"). They became more widely known after winning the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest with “Waterloo”. The group consisted of two couples, Björn and Agnetha along with Benny and Frida. [ABBA is an acronym formed from the first letters of each group member's name.] Their songs “SOS” consolidated ABBA’s presence in being no longer regarded as a one-hit wonder. To follow with “Money, Money, Money”, “Knowing Me, Knowing You” and their most enduring and definitive hit, “Dancing Queen”. ABBA remain the most successful Swedish music act and were once one of the most popular groups in the world. The group dominated charts worldwide during the mid-to-late 1970s and early 1980s. Estimates of ABBA’s total worldwide sales vary from 360 to 400 million (360 million albums in 1999), which makes them the second most successful band of all time after The Beatles. They were the first act from the European mainland to become a regular fixture in British, American and Australian charts. © 2006 Christopher W Herbert (a New Zealand Poet) a poet who cares |
