Something So Foreign Give me the familiar the usual drudgery – same old disappointment; Drag me down, use me up you are the lie that I believe. Let me drink your poison worship me with your daggers, give me your isolation let your demons lick my laugh. I’ll be the hate you try to hide inside your savage quiescence. Any kind of touch is better than none. You always find my faults manipulate, control them - erase me turn me upside down inside out. Beautiful liar spread me open wide itch my scratch with the reptiles that crawl beneath your skin slither their scars across the broken thoughts I cannot repair. Disease my infection hurt me to see if you still feel gut me, but I won’t bleed tell me I’m worthless and I’ll become it. Honour me, love me... and that would kill me. By Melissa Long-Monette Intellectually I know that Canada is no better than any other country. Emotionally I KNOW that Canada is the best country in the world! |

Honeybee LOL The best downer I've read in a long time. Would you like to ride a butterfly? |

Melissa, This is a very powerful poem. You say a lot in what you do not say, yet it is difficult to squeeze in between the lines. Well done. Les |

This is a good write Melissa, but be careful what you wish for they say. No one can do anything to you unless you let them! I gave that up years ago. |

There was a challenge, recently, about the art of negative imagery... and I think this fits the bill very well. Welcome home, Little One! |

It's an honour to receive replies from such talented poets (whom I've missed) - it's good to be back! Even though this is the first time I've posted this poem here, it's actually an oldie - luckily I don't feel this way anymore nor do I have this kind of relationship I'm still looking for Mr. Right though - but at least I know that I won't ever settle Melissa~ Intellectually I know that Canada is no better than any other country. Emotionally I KNOW that Canada is the best country in the world! |
