He'd get mean when he was drinking. That's the way he'd always been. And when he'd cross the line with you... You'd lean on me. Four nights ago he crossed the line again And we crossed the line between...just friends. Does his grave seem big enough for three? Four nights ago our bodies met. Three days ago he died. I had my fears when I ran him away. And from the time he staggered to his truck to the time the news arrived... Our secret fire burned, with no thought of hell to pay. For so long... we'd loved at a distance Touching only with our eyes. What was once a dream... is now a sad nightmare. We can't beat the hand that fate has played In his grave...our love is laid. It will not rest in peace and it never had a prayer. When we shook hands in the parking lot Not a cloud was in the sky. I don't know how we've held up through it all. By the time the folks were seated, You could hear the storm outside... Like the hand of God pounding on the wall. It seems it's always raining at every funeral I attend But there's more than just red clay being washed away. That night... what we called Heaven The next day... We called a sin. Now I look at you and you just look away. What kind of twisted fate is this... Four nights ago...our bodies met... Now, the flame of guilt burns deep within our souls. Consuming years of pent up passion Leaving ashes of regret. Our love dies... Now that his bell has tolled. For so long... We loved at a distance Touching only with our eyes. What was once a dream... Is now a sad nightmare. We can't beat the hand that fate has played. In his grave...our love is laid... It will not rest in peace And it never had a prayer. |

I dont read this as the poem of a murderer who loses It stays within my mind but the image I pick up is of use, stupdity, a belief that you can walk away scott free from crime A more meaniful belief that it gained nothing but someone's death Dave |

Uriah, this is one that leaves you with your stomach in a knot. It makes me wonder how Moses or the Apostle Paul might have felt. True repentance comes hard and not without guilt. Rebirth and forgivness is what Jesus offers, it's so simple not many can grasp it. :-) |

The poem encourages us to view our own transgressions, if you consider guilt. The poem was superb. |

Great song, as usual. Nobody can beat the guilt of sin. Lust is ever present in our society and sometimes when fate plays us a hand, it seems unfair. But for every action, as they have said for years, there is an equal and opposite reaction. This was beautifully written about a love triangle gone bad. Well done Uriah. Sheri Adams Jesus lives in my heart! He can in yours too!!! |
