on the odd occasion I drift into my mother’s house
ruby emerald sapphire earrings lined neatly on the dresser today she wears diamonds tiny jar of honey lifted from the drugstore where she eats breakfast placed exactly on kitchen counter tea bags in custard cup await her pleasure
I find her there an abbreviation cross legged on her bed paper napkin in her lap tuna sandwich on white bread her hands are swooping birds pecking at the food flitting eyes asking questions
a northern creature transplanted to the south her voice still holds the sea damsel fly skimming the top her life is a hand knit afghan that turned out smaller than she expected anger is her portion and she roars the echo of a full lifetime of

Such remarkable description!!! You have a story in each poem that pulls the reader in looking for a deeper truth, and when they find it, they feel as if they took their first breath.

Oh, and I second Earth Angel!
When I saw the title, I knew this was going to be a portrait poem - and oh boy! do you do those so well! - and I couldn't wait to get into it with all the excitement of a child before a Christmas tree stacked with presents in brightly coloured and imaginative wrapping paper. And you NEVER disappoint. Your observation skills - born of your wonderful altruism - combined with your excellent artistry, has woven yet another Kate-masterpiece. And please don't ever stop!
And lots and lots of hugs and kisses and meeows to George Lewis Mead and Winifred Susan Mead.

The Lady, Wonderful, wonderful writing. May I echo that of another by saying you are a master portrait artist? I'm glad to see the words have drifted back.

EA, I love your words. Big love hugs to you. I hope you are feeling better.
Thank you Sir Sy. I appreciate you.
Steven… smiles back to you. You make me believe.
