Dedicated to a friend who inspired me with her story of "slops in the snow."

memories of young girls
gone on holiday
have you a prettier picture?
sweet smooth limbs
bared to the world
hair held by bejeweled dime store barrettes
sparkling young girls
peasant blouses
red and yellow stars falling
across bodices
slops on drifting feet
seeking nameless rendezvous
popping unknown delicacies
into daring mouths
memories of young girls
gone on holiday

laughter
gliding along the walls of innocence

Oh, to think of those days when mirrors were friends and smooth bare limbs were taken for granted and the world felt like a carousel!  You capture the vanity of young feminity awesomely. I loved this.

Thank you Jo. I’m glad it brought you good memories.

Thank you Karen. Oh yes, mirrors were friends and we had not yet discovered how gravity longed to drag us down. Weren’t we wonderful?

Thank you LeeJ. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks SmartChick!

Ah Page, growing up is splendid but you are yet a young girl. Put on your peasant blouse with red and yellow stars and go on holiday. Atlanta should be nice this week.

Kate, happy giggles and thanks for the poem - from the friend who told you about "slops (flip flops to Americans!) in the snow".  I can't remember what any of us were wearing all those years ago (Ithink it was 39 or 40 years ago!), but I love what you clothed us in.  And, of course, as always, I love your poem.

It’s strange Diana but I had a clear picture of you and your friends in the snow and it danced in my head until I wrote it. Thank you for your wonderful inspiration. (I am sure you were wearing peasant blouses and dime store barrettes. Giggle.)

Thank you passing shadows.

May I whisper very quietly, "What are barrettes?"  We probably have/had them, but we probably call/called them something else!

I am so sorry Diana. I wasn't
thinking. They are clips that
hold your hair back from your
face. Like this...

Yep, giggles, we do have them, but we call them hair clips!  Thanks for the translation!

Laughing. That's too funny Diana. Imagine calling them what they are... hair clips. Thanks for letting us know.

Androgynous, thank you for your kind reply.
