it takes two alarms to awaken me from sleep the sleep avoided every evening until it comes almost by force force of habit I suppose the youngest child never wanted to go to bed earlier than brothers and sisters for fear of missing something good or important we die soon enough anyway why sleep now? now stumbling into the morning there it is Remington blue it sleeps too with a green light indicating electrons recharging and three annular blades spinning at near ultra-sonic speed whisks away what grows in front of that which I have found nothing to replace in the cabinet there is a can of edge gel that has sat for four years displaced as am I [This message has been edited by Local Rebel (03-28-2006 07:04 PM).] |

"the sleep avoided every evening until it comes almost by force force of habit" I believe that this is possibly one of my "habits" also at times Reb... sometimes? I'm just grateful for when the sleep finally comes. ![]() seek the flame within yourself |

Hawk, I can identify with the first part -- my son (now a teen) is still having sleep problems, which started the day he was born. It's hard being a parent....even harder when you're a single parent (I've been both so I understand). Here's a pat on the back for being a good dad....hang in there....someday, I suspect your sleep habits will change. *hugs*....jo |

"it takes two alarms to awaken me from sleep the sleep avoided every evening until it comes almost by force force of habit" Oh Lord, how I know this!! See the time now? 1:25A.M. here and I'm still up. I love this, as I do all of yours, Reb. Hugs, Ethel |

I actually enjoy not sleeping, but then again I have always been afraid to miss even the smallest detail. Felt like I was sitting on the 3rd shelf. Oh, just throw out the Edge. ![]() Waste not a second ~ Carpe' Diem |

smile "why sleep now" Because um, you go a bit batty when y'don't? Sorry--the voice of experience typed that. ![]() You are a joy yanno, even when weary. ![]() and smiling at the shaving cream. I can't believe some of things I still have either--like um, my uterus. It too, remains displaced. ![]() Gawd but I love ya! ![]() |

Hi Reb...It's really good to see a new poem from you. I sure wish I could find one from me. Got a laugh (with understanding) at what you brought out of Serenity. Don't throw the gel away yet...there still may come a day when you need it. ![]() |

Thanks all for reading this horrible, um, thing... My brain feels like edge gel. Self imposed sleep deprivation. I usually only get 4-5 hours a night. But the past couple I've had this OCD thing going on playing Stevie Ray Vaughn's song 'Pride and Joy'... I keep playing the opening riff through the first verse into the first guitar break -- over and over -- because I like playing it -- and I'm trying to get it perfect -- so, I get it perfect (albeit perfect they way that I want it -- I never copy anybody directly) and then I try to do it agian just to see if I can do it twice in a row -- then I blow a lick somewhere, try to cover it up and play through to the next break and then go around and around in circles like the annular blades on my razor... I'm tellin ya -- it's like OCD... then.. it's eating into my already deprived sleep time -- because I want to do it just before bed so I can 'sleep heal' my brain (if you sleep after you've learned a phyisical activity your brain rewires itself during sleep so that you can do the task pretty much without thinking about it like typing or driving a car or shooting baskets at a hoop)... so...anyhow -- my fingers are fast but my brain is slow.. ![]() there isn't enough coffee in the universe... |

I use the self-brain-wash technique m'self. brain hiccups can be utilized to benefit ![]() |

Well, Reb, I thought I had a great answer till I read Karen's. ![]() Rewires the brain cells, eh? So THAT'S the key. You are supposed to sleep afterwards?!? not during the activity? ![]() |

Reb...I remember doing just this thing with my fingers on the invisible keyboard in my mind, going over and over in my head until it was just right. OCD for sure! You were really playing though, right? Me laying in bed with my piano two rooms away...how would I know if I hit a wrong note?? Oh, I knew! Maybe tonight you will be so tired that you sleep easy. Hope so. ![]() |

wow, could have sworn I replied to this...guess not... I went through a time once when I got on average 15 hours (or less) a week...was thin as a rail too... lol..all things must pass...for a few years later my daughter saw a special on sleep deprivation and came up with the revelation that that was exactly what was wrong with me.....sigh... now it seems I can barely go one night on not enough and I am wiped out.....so...you be careful...driving on not enough sleep can be deadly.... hugs |
