Night Was Not The Victor |

Sometimes night falls, like the hammer of a smith. In the darkness I wonder, was dawn just a myth? A trick of imagination, I played upon myself? A book I read in the night, then placed upon a shelf? Though I see points of light in the darkness, stars up in the sky. I think I'll never touch one, I can't remember how to fly. As the night drags on and on, hope tends to fade. Did I bring this night this plight, with the choices that I've made? Could I have done more, to dry a tear from an eye? Did I say hello, when I should have said goodbye? Could I have sholdered anothers burden, but did not even try? Did I lose faith in truth and love? Did I believe a lie? Yes! I cry in the night, as I pray for the dawn. All these things I have done, though they be wrong. Often I put trust in self, instead of God. I am but a foolish child, beating himself with a rod. But as I rise to my feet, and brush the dust from my knees. The sun peeks oer distant hill, birds sing in the trees. I hear the laughter of a child, I see a lady smile. The night was not the victor, but was only a trial. |

Though I see points of light in the darkness, stars up in the sky. I think I'll never touch one, I can't remember how to fly. Ahhh now this is just lovely... and now, during my bouts of frustrating insomnia, I shall have this poem to remind me that yes, the night is just a trial, and so I will trust and sleep, remembering your wise words.
