A slender pinnacle

A narrow hill
Mandated by respect
Fear superstition
Or some forgotten law

East of a bookstore parking lot
Solitary gouged out bereft of context
Where no birds sing

On top a single stone worn by time
Hidden in weeds under the shade
Of one elegiac tree

Mary
From nowhere in particular

Beloved wife and mother
R.I.P.

I am there hidden slightly by the weeds, just to the right of the tree . . . can you see me?  You made me see and feel this so well.  This is very beautiful (as is all your work).  My guess is that you don't know Mary.  For your sake, I hope not.  For hers, I hope you do.  However, I know her now and I feel for her and her husband and children.

OwlSA,

Yes Barnes & Noble is a large bookstore
chain here.  This was a New England scene.
By the stone I suspect at least a
hundred years or more had passed since it
was new.

Thanks to all for reading.

you've captured images imprinting them on my mind...oh, how I love to visit grave yards, (during the day) of course.  Cannot help wonder of the many stories...

John, this was marvelous...
