Belly beast
and butts-a-lust
lawd, that was at Anthony's
swaying underneath the thrust
of notes that we could grab
and swing
them, as psychic surgery
directly into chest
we'd pound
sweating rhythms
and the sound
was tight and sweet
and I felt the need of frown
grinding into my rearend
intimate
and floodlights grin
laughing my predicament
wondering if he was spent
when the song bass drummed an end
"woman are you satisfied"
I heard a whisper
"want a drink?"
I nodded in hypnotic sway
my life it coulda stopped that way--
with a stranger's hand across
my mid-riff -- one finger wet
dredging life on my dead skin
like the barges pumping silt
from the bottoms of relent
rivers, lovers, fat and slack
sliding on the barstool, black
I blared my drunken ruthlessness
and my faceless dancer dared
to put his finger in my face
dripping with my sweat to taste:

I suckled him like that.

He whispered: "I'll be back..."
he kissed
my neck the way that makes me...
that
way I get when I am stoned--

I tried to read the epitaphs
carved into the curvature
of the elbows leaning verse
and cursed the wooden scroll of words:

"Woman, Are You Satisfied?"
and I nevah lied to drunks:
"No--I don't believe I am."
I replied to no one there
and Paula and the Pontiacs
made me dance again. And that

is what I want to do right now...

and play the movie in reverse
so I could order oysters, too.
Since neither was the truth
and youth,
is my woman's best and worst -
blues are just the curse of me:

A woman lovin' New Orleans
mocking herself and the lies
of the prophecies and tides

never, ever, satisfied

and yet so close to burst...

my life it coulda stopped that way--

so many times . . .

I do believe it is a good day, a lazy day, for

Kind of Blue

or

Bitches Brew

Birth of the Cool?

Miles Ahead
and then he smiles

Essential licks
and Milestones

Now that one I really liked and got it!

We are definitely going to do damage I tell you!

I love the internal rhyme in this one K, and especially loved this one line....

He whispered: "I'll be back..."
he kissed
my neck the way that makes me...
that

Wish you had left it right there!  LOL

I had my own ending.  Beans, cabbage, wine, and blues suit you lady blue.

Now...I am off to a polarbear swim, and it's cold and raining!  Will send pictures.

Thanks for taking the trip down memory lane with me yet again.

I meant to spend the day reading today, but...oh well, sometimes even I have to punch a clock. (Not literally. I found out the hard way that punching out timeclocks only hurts your hand, not the clock.)

I'll be around...

I already see lots of feasties I want to catch up on.

Love to you all.

and thanks, ever and always, for reading.

I read this a few days ago... and was thrust through a time machine... staggering from Tipitina's unable to hear a thing after a night of dancing directly in front of the speakers... where people were strange but not strangers. *S* Some hungers are never satisfied... and shouldn't be. *S*

Superb write... fantastic ending!!

Then Ruthie?

I called it "anthony's"

but the bar I had in mind was actually Bennie's Blues Bar...had you been?

It's where the Neville Brothers cut their teeth.

and thank you all so much...

I was feeling sorry for myself when I wrote this, but now I realize, I'm so very fortunate--I saw New Orleans when she was what she was advertised as...and yes, I have hope--

I think we can fix her.

smaller maybe...but she's still got her bones.

Love to all.

and I'm having such a weird day. I just cranked up the blues when this popped back up to the top.

wow.

(serenity looks up)

WOW.

Thanks for reading...

"...well
back to back
belly to belly
I don't give a damn
'cause it doesn't matter really..."

One very early morning on Bourbon Street after trying my best to drain a swamp of  whiskey and rum I looked through the open door of a quaint establishment and a woman, glistening with sweat, who was easily 400 pounds wearing just a shimmy shake almost dress and tall sling backs was dancing on the bar to a hard driving back beat. I felt like I had stumbled into the Fellini floor of Dante's Cabinet of Curiosities.  I ran to the river and stared at it for hours and it was a long time before I could drink Meyer's Rum again.

Just look at the lock your poem picked in my head.

Now how do I get this damned door back on its hinges?

A burning touch from hell and yet there is hope drifting through and above all, there is the essence of a true poet, whom I admire.

Again, I find myself blinking at the way you do the thing you do.

Must come by it natchrul-like
