In this new little home, I sat down to think
About a year that went by in a baby’s wink.
A year spent with friends and family who care
I wouldn’t trade for any riches beyond compare.

This year has taught me so many things
I will never forget once the New Year rings,
But I’ll greet next year with a fractured heart
With memory of things that fell sadly apart.

Natural disasters thankfully missed me by a mile.
Instead, taking away other’s laughter, and smile.
It found a target in dear friends I love so much,
Even though I have never even felt their touch.

I have learned from these folks so very much
To carry with me to next year and such.
Like, a door’s just a door; a window’s just glass
Without a house full of love it will sure shatter fast.

They picked up the pieces and started anew,
I wonder if we could be the same, do you?
The damage done outside and inside as well,
Dampened their souls from that water’s swell.

While we sat at home all safe and confined,
Sipping on glasses of vintage wine while we all dined,
We said, “Poor people how will they get a new start?”
Humanity finally grouped together, opening ONE big heart.

During an entire year we all seem to forget
The little things later we’ll live to regret.
Remember seeing a child separated from its mother?
A husband, a wife, a pet lost, or someone’s lover?

This year errs to humans you made, or they to you,
Forget them, and let’s all work together to undo,
The hate, the ignorance, things that keep us apart,
We are all this earth’s children, with a similar heart.

We must all work together for peace, for humanity sake,
We have to survive together in whatever we make.
I hope we can all change the way we think next year
Or we will be writing our own epitaph I fear.

Happy New Year to all, close by and afar,
I wish you joy and happiness wherever you are.
Peace, good health, and oh yes, just one more thing….
I wish you all love as we hear this New Year’s ring.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Oh, lady... how very true. *S*

I'll toast a most sincere echo of your wishes for working together and offering what help we can... for peace... and for a better 2006 for us all. And the fireworks in your picture don't even violate the burn bans initiated because of the wildfires. *glee*

Beautiful write! *S*

You know...I have never realized until lately just how very lucky I am - sadly due to other's misfortune.  They have taught me so much this year on how to hold grace, faith, pride, and family together in any adversity.  Not unlike all of you, I have volunteered, donated, and "done my dues" but until it benefits someone you love you don't realize just how very important people like you and me can be in the scheme of things.

I sincerely hope for all victims a very smooth healing in 2006, and for the rest of us I hope a lesson was learned, that it can all be gone in just a wink!

Oh and   thank you so much for the returned wish, I appreciate it.

Again, Happy New Year to you all.

What a lovely piece to remind us all of our blessings and of our temporary place on this earth.  Things are things - But love is true - The first you can't take with you, but the second - it lives in you.

Sharon...You dear lady have a beautiful caring heart. Like you said the key is helping those in need bounce back from the trials we go thru. Having faith and hope for a better new year will give us all strength...HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU...Paul

Happy thoughts and wishes for you too Sharon!
PEACE...on a grand scale. I still believe it is possible, though not in my lifetime. But there are SMALLER moments of Peace that can and do prevail, and perhaps these tiny moments of joy will someday merge into one.

Well it is already a new year in Australia, and many other places, and as we all know we can lose it all in a split second, so I sincerely hope each and every one who greets 2006 will grab all they can I know I sure am going to try to make every minute 61 seconds.

Again, Happy New Year to you all, and may it be a healthy, and happy one for you all.
