Love is a very simple thing
like the transmission of thought
that seeds itself without a doubt
in the sand of a fertilized brain.

Sometimes it grows a beautiful rose
perfectly balanced and poised
and able to sway according to needs
hidden within the stem of belief.

Sometimes a bush of disease
or a tree of unfathomable pain
that stands like a solid brick wall
in front of an ardent wish.

Simple, so simple, so very simple,
but that simpleton of the mind
crosses and ticks, adds and subtracts,
and discounts love as a bribe.

Love simply is whatever you think
whenever you stop, look, listen, feel,
but only a woman bothers to kneel
simply to honour its power!

Thank you all so much for reading and for your kind comments which are greatly appreciated. Love is so many different things to so many different people so I'm pretty sure that love is plain and simply what you think it is - bearing in mind that a "thought" is the start (and the end) of everything real and imagined. The question remains as to whether the thought is really ours or not but I don't suppose it matters much as long as one loves.
