Listening to every heart

0 posted 2005-12-24 09:21 PM

Silent Night

Thin worn strains of voices bleed
through the tissues of my mind,
so I hold in heart, and in my heed
story-book memories as they unwind.

Where brass parts made a carousel
candles placed just so made little bells ring
and daddy hid his, “Ow, what the, oh well…”
in garnering gifts to make us sing…

Oranges and nuts, oh how they filled
stockings with care, for times were hard,
but nothing makes up for some parents’ will
when love was written in home-made cards…

When kitchen smells filled all the rooms,
and cinnamon ran along in song,
thoughts of Santa coming soon…
and family was where they belonged…

When red and green rolled paper rings
seemed like the perfect tree’s garland,
and company with the songs they’d bring
reminded us of our heartland…

For upon this, the most silent of nights,
when all of the world is in embrace,
may the blessings of this holiest night
beam some rapture upon your face…

And whether you might believe, or not,
still you’ve done unto another, ‘tis right…
for us to believe you are not forgot…
upon this most silent of nights….

Merry Christmas!

"and family was where they belonged…"

So true this Christmas, K.

May God Bless and watch over those who are not.

Wonderful joy and sentiments expressed in this piece.

Thanks,

Ya know, sissie...it doesn't seem to matter where we grew up or who are parents were, some things just make us sisters, like those paper rings.  Love you..have a Merry Christmas!

KJ, memories are such a treasured thing.
They allow us to celebrate the season time
and time again...always bringing a smile to
our faces...

Merry Christmas dear lady....all the best to
you and your family...

Karilea, I saw myself with my grandparents again. Made me go back awhile. Love this. Hope you had a very Merry Christmas.
