went on a hunt recently
(actually, more of a quest)
left the city
for the countryside,
knowing this species
was rare, hard to find;

there, deep in the woods,
among the trees unmoved,
I sat down next to a pond,
its surface glistening,
mirror smooth -

I knew I was close —
I felt my quarry’s presence
all around me;
I remained
motionless...
listening...

for a brief moment
there was silence -

then it vanished...

Ah, the sound of silence.
Beautiful is it not?
Perfectly penned.

Thank you - silence is hard to find these days...

Especially when we keep inventing new ways to keep silence away.

When we come upon such a serene moment, it is as if a stormy sea suddenly became tranquil; the waves subsided, to become a clear mirror of the sky above...and there, upon that shore, our mind's eye - can see forever.
