High in mountains never scaled, Blow the winds by the gods exhaled Alpine peaks in ice enshrined, Beyond the thoughts of mortal mind. Oh how I wish I could traverse To icy realm where gods converse, Beyond the petty talk of man To the heights where life began But alas, my feet are planted, Other than on peaks enchanted. |

where the 3 roads meet I was surprised to see the great bronze of Hermes knocked over, flat on the ground: people use to worship here . . . now the invincible guardian lay flat on the ground but later that night he appeared by my bed grinned down at me, said: “ you have to go with the times . . . that much I learned when I was a god” Palladas (360—430) |
