Rumor had it She would watch From some high place With that lovesick Paris At her side And of course It was said She was beautiful Though the features of her figure The very color of her eyes Seemed to change From man to man There were women enough For peasants to fight And poets to write about In towns and farms back home So only a fool Would think it true We left the fields Our pigs and cows To war for a woman We had never seen |

Helen, "lesser things have made a heart beat on" That can be taken a number of ways as different as sword and flowers. Happy Holidays John |

true most of those who went did not carry Helen’s portrait next to their hearts - but a premise of gold and more pigs and cows... yet, men have died in millions for causes much lesser than a face of a woman... for another man’s avarice and greed, egos of godly stature... “Where you going, soldier?” “Where they tell me to....” |

CG, Thanks for reading. And the response which I think you should post where others can read. John |

But -- haven't we all? I mean, at some time or another, hasn't every man done something exactly like this? ...and does that excuse it in the slightest....? ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

Ed, Thanks for reading. Something addressed in “The Leaden Eyed” I think had much to do with it . . . Thanks again, John |

I always took it as metaphor anyhow...Helen, the embodiment of passion for an ideal... your work is always thought provoking John. |
