Even if
As her father said
A narrow board
With a hole in it
Yet in her stunted innocence
She is more than all of Warsaw
Glibly waltzing on the promenade
In silks and furs

It is that actual trust in love
Even mine after so many years
That draws me back to Krochmalna Street

Though Poland is plagued
From within and without
With evils that threaten to shorten
Our already precarious hour

Here I’ll stay as long as I can
Beside this simple girl who still only prays
I’ll be the mensch I planned upon
When together
We were young

the simplest thing in life is love
the difficult thing in life
is finding your true love!
