Too Hot To Drink

1:
It is the year 1497.
And Charlie Columbus
Still thinks he went to China
Some five years ago.
I am talking with a group
Of senior Royal Navy officers.
I’m trying to convince them
Of the need for Great Britain
To find a fast-track to the Orient
Before the Spanish and the Portuguese.
They say they are studying the problem,
That this might involve sailing
Round the southern cape of Africa,
Passing through the equatorial seas.
It is thought that the heat of the tropics
Would cause the equatorial waters to boil.
No, I assure them.
The water in the tropics isn’t boiling,
It’s just too hot to drink.

2:
The bathroom has changed little
In the last 1500 years.
It still has a mirror, and everything.
Before the bathroom was invented,
It was preceded and made possible
By the invention of the “room.”
So people wouldn’t have to be outside.
The door was invented
So people could come inside from outside
As when the weather was bad.
The window was invented
So people could look outside
Without actually having to go there,
And see what was going on inside
While staying out.
Before the room,
People had to be outside
Even if the weather was bad.
Cloths were invented
So people could undress themselves.
This illustrates the march
Of human technology in reverse.

Today's aphorism:
Hey, look at thanksgiving from the Turkish point of vies? ...

a bit confusing when first read. but after a second look it is quite intriging and you learn from it and it makes you think. good job and keep it up.

lol, made me giggle. Happy Thanksgiving day to you, amigo Jaime! And yes, I've viewed today's American tradition from that Turkey's POV, as I eat my veggies and tofu.
