Mother warned me I’d married into a family of females -- leading ladies standing center stage on tapelines -- stuck firmly there through all life’s stages: orchestrators of scenes, sewers of sets. Meanwhile, the men are busy always busy with small tasks, sawing at logs or painting muted backdrops and, as always, dressed in chameleonic colors: how they blend with the invented sky that depicts lives sprinkled with too few stars: parents dying young, children acting as grownups and the uncle who fills the role of villain. Their masks are cracked, just here and there, the smiles tilted; and the eyes: defiant and slightly sad. There is love there. It’s in the acts and tightly scripted deeds and in the way they hold on to traditions; long playing into the night, having come late into comfort. There are many of them, so very many that when they gather, the room trembles with sound, loud, loud voices booming, projecting: survive! You write with a keen eye, Corinne. Isn't it the truth, family gatherings are a blending of assorted colors and contrasts... all grinning and bearing it! Best to you, and happy holidays~ |

I love bumpers of the good stuff... I know why I missed this... but only for a short while. You're one heck of a sower of seed, yourself... . |
